Virat Kohli, arguably one of India’s finest batsmen, has performed marvelously in Australia and in 13 Test matches has amassed more than 1300 runs, with six centuries. However, Kohli’s all-time great innings in Australia was not that which assisted India in winning a match. Virat Kohli picks Perth Test Hundred as the greatest Test knock in Australia during the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite India’s defeat in that game, this innings shall always remain close to his heart.
Perth: The Ultimate Test for Batters
Perth is among the tougher places in the world for batters with some of the fastest and bounciest pitches. Not only Kohli-the only Indian to have scored a century at this ground; other cricket legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, and Sachin Tendulkar have also done so. Still, Kohli’s century stands out because of the challenging conditions.

In a video shared by the BCCI, Kohli explained why this innings means so much to him. “My best knock in Australia will definitely be my hundred at Perth during the 2018-19 series,” he said. “It was the toughest pitch I’ve ever played on in Test cricket, so getting a century there felt great.”
Six years ago, India suffered a heavy defeat in the Perth Test, losing by an innings and 146 runs. However, the loss didn’t hold them back for long. India bounced back strongly, winning the Melbourne Test and ultimately clinching the series—their first-ever Test series victory in Australia. While Kohli couldn’t find his usual consistency in that series apart from his Perth century, he wouldn’t trade it for anything, knowing it contributed to a historic team triumph.
Kohli’s Early Promise at Perth
As India prepares for the upcoming five-Test series, starting in Perth, the Indian team will aim to channel the same determination and resilience. Historically, Perth’s fast and bouncy pitches have intimidated batters, but Kohli thrives under such conditions. In two Tests at Perth, he has already scored 259 runs at an impressive average of 64.75.
Kohli’s connection with Perth began in his debut series in Australia. Even before his maiden Test century, he made his presence felt at the WACA. In that match, he scored 44 and 75 across two innings, standing tall while others struggled, showcasing the grit and determination that have defined his career.
