Indian off-spinner R Ashwin Surpasses Nathan Lyon to Become 7th Highest Wicket-Taker in Test History has surpassed Australian bowler Nathan Lyon in the list of cricketers with the most wickets in Test matches. Ashwin achieved this milestone during the second Test match between India and New Zealand, held on Thursday.

R. Ashwin, now the seventh most successful bowler in Test cricket history, raised his total number of wickets to 531 by dismissing three New Zealand players. With this achievement, he is now India’s second-most successful bowler in Test matches.

Moving Up in the Rankings

Before the match in Pune, Ashwin had 528 Test wickets. By taking the wickets of Tom Latham, Will Young, and Devon Conway, he increased his tally to 531. With 530 wickets, Nathan Lyon is now behind Ashwin, who moved up to the seventh spot in the all-time list of wicket-takers.

Ashwin’s Impressive Stats

R. Ashwin has achieved this feat in just 105 Test matches, while Lyon has played 129. In addition to playing fewer matches, Ashwin also boasts a better bowling average and strike rate. His average is around 23, compared to Lyon’s 30.

Next on Ashwin’s list is Australian legend Glenn McGrath, who ranks sixth with 563 Test wickets. Ashwin is now focused on narrowing the gap between him and McGrath.
