Cricket Australia (CA) has announced its Test Team of the Year for 2024, with India’s Jasprit Bumrah named captain. The team features two Indian players, including Yashasvi Jaiswal and Bumrah, and represents the best performers from around the world.

Openers: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ben Duckett

India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal had an outstanding year, scoring 1,478 runs at an average of 54.74 in 15 matches. His highest score of 214 and three centuries made him India’s top run-scorer in Tests.
England’s Ben Duckett joins him as the second opener. Duckett scored 1,149 runs in 17 matches at an average of 37.06, including two centuries, with a top score of 153.

Top Order: Joe Root at No. 3

England’s Joe Root, the leading Test run-scorer in 2024, slots in at No. 3. He scored 1,556 runs at an average of 55.57, with six centuries, including a high score of 262. Root also contributed with 11 wickets during the year.

Middle Order: Ravindra, Brook, and Mendis

New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra takes the fourth position. He scored 984 runs at 42.78, including two centuries, and played a key role in his team’s success.
England’s Harry Brook, known for his consistency, scored 1,100 runs at 55.00 with four centuries, including a triple century.
Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis rounds off the middle order with 1,049 runs at an impressive average of 74.92, including five centuries.

Wicketkeeper: Alex Carey

Alex Carey was selected as the keeper-batter for his solid contributions. He scored 440 runs at 33.84 and made 46 dismissals (42 catches and 4 stumpings).

Bowling Attack: Bumrah, Henry, Hazlewood, and Maharaj

Jasprit Bumrah, the leading wicket-taker in 2024, picked up 71 wickets in 13 matches at an incredible rate, including five five-wicket hauls. His leadership skills in guiding India to a victory in Perth during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earned him the captaincy.
New Zealand’s Matt Henry impressed with 48 wickets at an average of 18.58 in just nine games.
Australia’s Josh Hazlewood picked up 35 wickets at a stunning average of 13.60 in 15 matches.
South Africa’s spinner Keshav Maharaj was also included for his 35 wickets at an average of 19.20, helping his team reach the ICC World Test Championship final.
