Sachin Tendulkar Receives Honorary Membership from Melbourne Cricket Club

Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary cricketer, is now an honorary member of the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC). It is known as one of the oldest sports club of Australia. This honor was conferred on Tendulkar to recognize the excellence he performed in cricket.

Tendulkar was indeed a record holder at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) with a total of 449 runs in five Test matches at an average strike rate of 44.90. It includes a century and three half-centuries. Tendulkar also received the award “Order of Australia” in the year 2012.

An iconic athlete honored! The MCC is proud to announce that former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar has accepted Honorary Cricket Membership in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the game, said the club on its official social media account.

Tendulkar played 39 Tests against Australia in his career, scoring 3,630 runs. At the MCG, he played 5 Tests and 7 ODIs, amassing 449 and 190 runs, respectively.

Sachin Tendulkar Career Highlights

Sachin Tendulkar had a career that spanned almost 24 years, wherein he played 200 Tests and 463 ODIs besides just one T20I match, aggregating the maximum runs in the annals of international cricket. He is also the first and only player to have scored a century of centuries in international cricket.

He made his Test debut on November 15, 1989, against Pakistan, and his last match was against the West Indies on November 16, 2013. Tendulkar was part of the Indian team in the triumph that was the ODI World Cup in 2011.

Within a few months of his receiving honorary membership to the Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the Sydney Cricket Club, Tendulkar was also made an honorary member of Test cricket stronghold of MCC.

 Fourth Test at the MCG

The MCG is hosting the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia. On day two, India suffered a setback after a mix-up between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli led to Jaiswal’s run-out. Jaiswal was batting fluently, having scored 82 runs off 118 balls.

India ended the day at 164/5, still 310 runs behind Australia’s first-innings score of 474. Ravindra Jadeja (4) and Rishabh Pant (6) are the not-out batters.
