Aurelien Tchouameni Injured in Champions League Loss
Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni will miss approximately a month after injuring his ankle in the team’s recent 3-1 defeat to AC Milan in the Champions League on November 5. The French international collided with former Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata in the first half. Initially, it seemed like that the incident was not serious and both players continued with the game.
However, the coach substituted Tchouameni at halftime, replacing him with Brahim Diaz. The French player struggled and limped off the pitch on his way to the dressing room. After medical tests doctors confirmed he had sprained his ankle and the club expects him to be out for around a month.
Although Tchouameni’s form has not been stellar this season with his performances often drawing criticism, including fans’ whistles at the Santiago Bernabeu, his absence is still a significant blow for Real Madrid. The 24-year-old has played 15 times across all competitions this season starting in every match except one.
This latest injury setback follows other serious injuries to key players at Real Madrid. Last season, the team struggled with Thibaut Courtois and David Alaba, both suffering ACL injuries. These injuries kept them out for an extended period. Courtois returned toward the end of the season but is now sidelined with an adductor injury. Alaba is still working toward full fitness and is not expected to return until the start of 2024.
Dani Carvajal’s long-term injury worsens the team’s woes. He is expected to miss the rest of the season due to an ACL tear. With these multiple injuries Tchouameni’s absence adds to the challenges. Carlo Ancelotti’s side now faces greater difficulty in staying competitive this season.
