The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sent injured opener Saim Ayub to London for treatment. The PCB aims to have Ayub fit in time for the Champions Trophy next month.
Ayub fractured his right ankle on Friday’s first day of the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town. Doctors have ruled him out of competitive cricket for at least six weeks.
PCB Chairman Addresses the Decision
In a statement on Sunday, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi explained the board’s decision. After consulting doctors, the board decided to send Ayub to London for treatment with an orthopedic surgeon.
“He’s a very good, stylish batter and an asset to Pakistan,” Naqvi stated. “We are concerned about his injury, and he will receive the best treatment available.”
Ayub to Leave Cape Town Soon
Assistant coach Azhar Mahmood will accompany Ayub to London. The two will leave Cape Town on the first available flight.
Pakistan Prepares for Champions Trophy
Defending champions Pakistan will face New Zealand in their first Group A match on February 19 in Karachi. The ICC has organized the tournament to take place in multiple countries. This arrangement follows India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns.
India’s games, including the semifinals and final (if they qualify), will take place in Dubai. India is also part of Group A, which includes Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. Group B features England, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan.
Matches hosted in Pakistan will take place in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.
