Jasprit Bumrah is an Indian cricketer born on December 6th, 1993 to a Sikh Family. Bumrah was born on 6 December 1993 into a Sikh Punjabi family in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His father, Jasbir Singh, ran a chemical business, while his mother, Daljeet Bumrah, worked as a school teacher. His father passed away when Bumrah was 5 years old due to hepatitis B.

He Known for his right-arm fast bowling and unorthodox action. Bumrah is one of the world’s best bowler across all formats of the game. He is a death over specialist bowler. He has played domestic cricket for Gujarat and has played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

International Debut of Bumrah

Bumrah played his first ODI in January 2016, in the fifth and last match of the series against Australia. He made a promising start to his career by taking his first ever international wicket in Steve Smith and finished the match with decent 2/40

Not long after, he played his first T20I match against Australia in the very first match of the T20I series. In his T20I debut, he claimed his first T20I victim in the form of Australian batsman Warner. He finished with 3/23 in his 4 overs. The exceptional performance of Bumrah has continued throughout the T20I series as he was the leading wicket taker for either side in the series with six wickets and helped India win the series.

Test in India and T20 World Cup: 2022

Jasprit Bumrah impressed during the 2021 India tour of England and finished the series as the top wicket-taker with twenty-three wickets. His magnificent show earned him the Player of the Series along with Joe Root of England.

A COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian side’s camp saw the last match of the series cancelled in September. Later it was played in July 2022. This match also marked the first time Bumrah led the Indian test team, having taken over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma. During this match, history was also made when Bumrah hit Stuart Broad for twenty-nine runs in one over. This is the most runs hit in one over in a test match eclipsing the twenty-eight runs by Brian Lara set almost eighteen years ago. The twelve-ball over, which included six extra runs, accounted for a total of thirty-five runs.

Bumrah was selected in the Indian squad to represent his country in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He was one of four fast bowlers in the main squad alongside Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Shardul Thakur. With such a fully packed team, India did not manage to make it to the semi-finals and were eliminated from that tournament early on.

In September 2023, Bumrah was named in India’s squad for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. He delivered standout performances, including a four-wicket haul against Afghanistan and two wickets in the final against Australia. Despite India losing the final, Bumrah emerged as the fourth-leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 20 wickets.

Bumrah has been named the Player of the Tournament during India’s 2024 T20 World Cup. He played a crucial role in India’s success with his impressive 4.17 economy rate and consistent wicket-taking skills.

He is the quickest Indian pacer to get to the 150 Test wickets mark and the second-fastest to take 100 ODI wickets in the history of the Indian cricket team. Bumrah is the first bowler in history to achieve the top spot in ICC men’s player rankings for all the formats of the game. For instance, he has earned the record for most runs conceded in one over in Test cricket, which was staged against Stuart Broad.
