Gujarat Giants Gear Up for PKL Season 11: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats
The Gujarat Giants, two-time Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) runners-up are determined to claim their first PKL title in Season 11. Known for their consistency the Giants have made it to the Playoffs in four out of the six seasons they’ve played. After bowing out in the Eliminator against Haryana Steelers last season the team now looks to go all the way under the guidance of head coach Ram Mehar Singh, who previously led Patna Pirates to PKL glory.
Strengths: A Powerful Raiding Unit
Gujarat Giants boast a formidable raiding lineup for Season 11. Led by Guman Singh, the team’s main raider, their attack looks promising. Acquired for ₹1.97 crore in the Player Auction, Guman brings with him 400 raid points in his PKL career, including 163 raid points in Season 10, where he ranked ninth overall.
Supporting him are Parteek Dahiya and Rakesh, both seasoned raiders. Parteek, with 308 raid points in just two seasons, has been a reliable force for the team. Rakesh, eager to rebound after a modest last season, will aim to add to his 379 raid points. Monu, with 109 raid points, adds further depth to the raiding arsenal.
Weaknesses: Defensive Frailty
The Giants’ defence, however, remains a concern. Sombir (194 tackle points) and Neeraj Kumar (172 tackle points) lead the defensive setup, but the team lacks other proven defenders. Although newcomers like Nitesh, Manuj, Mohit, Harsh Lad, and Vahid Rezaeimehr were signed at the auction their lack of PKL experience leaves doubts about the defence’s reliability.
Opportunities: All-Round Strength
To offset their defensive issues, the Giants will rely on their all-rounders. Mohammad Nabibakhsh (79 tackle points) and Balaji D (42 tackle points) have shown promise on both ends of the mat. Monu, with his 114 tackle points can also strengthen the team’s defence. The leadership of Ram Mehar Singh could help Neeraj Kumar return to form, adding stability to the backline.
Threats: Lack of Experience
A lack of experience across both the defensive and raiding units remains the Giants’ biggest threat. This shortcoming was evident last season when they lost several close games. The team must overcome this hurdle to achieve success in the fiercely competitive Season 11.
As the season unfolds, Gujarat Giants will look to balance their strengths and address their vulnerabilities in pursuit of the elusive PKL title. Fans will be eager to see if their mix of seasoned performers and fresh talents can deliver on the mat.
