India beats Australia by 295 runs in the First Test at Perth. With this victory, India scripted the biggest victory over Australia on foreign soil and overtook their previous record of 222 runs, which they had earlier attained in Melbourne in 1977.

This victory catapulted India to the summit of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 tables with a points percentage of 61.11% and Australia to second, with 57.69%

India dominates on Day 4

After leaving Australia at 12/3 by the end of Day 3, India needed just seven more wickets on the fourth day to clinch the match.

Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj struck early, removing Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith with exceptional deliveries. By lunch, Australia was struggling at 104/5, still needing 430 runs for an improbable win.

Travis Head, with his 89, fought hard but Jasprit Bumrah ended his 81 partnership run with Mitchell Marsh, having his third wicket of the innings. Not long after, Nitish Kumar Reddy sent Marsh to the shops for 47 leaving Australia 182/7.

Washington Sundar ended a hard-hitting 45 run association between Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc with an outstanding, near-take, catch by Dhruv Jurel at short leg. Sundar also took out Nate Lyon with a lovely balles after Tea.
Harshit Rana completed the game with a slower ball that bowled out Alex Carey, giving India a memorable win.

India Comeback after first-inning collapse

India’s win was a dramatic comeback after being bowled out for just 150 in the first innings. Jasprit Bumrah led the way with a brilliant five-wicket haul, skittling Australia for 104 and giving India a 46-run lead.

India’s second innings saw a strong batting performance. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a magnificent 161, while Virat Kohli anchored the innings with an unbeaten 100. These efforts helped India set a daunting target of 534 runs.

A Perfect Start to the Series

With that comprehensive victory, India has certainly taken a big step towards their objective of winning four out of five matches and getting into the WTC Final.
