Spurs Boss Defends Bentancur Appeal
Ange Postecoglou believes Spurs are right to appeal the seven-game domestic ban of Rodrigo Bentancur. The midfielder received the ban for a racist slur. However, Postecoglou feels the punishment is too harsh. Spurs hope to reduce the ban to six games the minimum for such offenses.
Education Over Harsh Punishments
Postecoglou values education over severe penalties. “He made a mistake, but education is the way forward” he said. The Spurs boss emphasized the importance of learning from mistakes. “I’ve made worse mistakes in life and learned from them” he added. He believes this approach help players grow as individuals.
Bentancur Suspension and Possible Return
Bentancur’s suspension keeps him out of domestic matches until December 26. He will miss key games against Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea. He is also unavailable for Spurs Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester United.
If the ban is reduced, Bentancur could return early. This would allow him to play against Liverpool. Postecoglou defended the appeal process, calling it necessary. “Our view is that it was harsh. It should have been the minimum” he said. However he remains open to accepting the final decision.
Injury Concerns for Spurs
Spurs face Manchester City on Saturday with several key players missing. Cristian Romero is out with a toe injury. Richarlison, Mickey Moore, Wilson Odobert and Micky van de Ven are also unavailable. These injuries add to the team’s challenges during a crucial period.
Postecoglou’s Focus on Progress
Postecoglou remains focused on growth despite setbacks. He prioritizes team development and discipline. He hopes his approach will help Spurs overcome challenges on and off the pitch. “Balancing discipline with learning is key” he said.
Spurs aim to navigate these hurdles while continuing their fight for success this season.
