Glenn Maxwell is widely recognized as one of modern cricket’s most electrifying and innovative players. He was born on 14 October 1988 in Melbourne, Victoria.
Rising to Stardom: The Early Days and IPL Glory
The Australian all-rounder came into the limelight in 2013, just six months after his international debut, when he landed a million-dollar deal with the Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Mumbai Indians.
Maxwell’s talent with the bat became evident in 2013 when Australia toured India for ODI series. Maxwell scored 248 runs in the 5 match series. Out of those 248 runs, Maxwell smashed 172 runs through boundaries. His reputation soared further in the IPL with Kings XI Punjab, where he finished as the league’s third-highest run-scorer during a remarkable season. Later that year in 2013 Australia toured India for the ODI series. Maxwell scored 248 runs in the 5 match series. Out of those 248 runs, Maxwell smashed 172 runs through boundaries
Record-Breaking Feats in International Cricket
Although he made his Test debut in 2013, Maxwell has featured in only seven Tests, all in Asia. What stands out during his time in the longest format is when playing in Ranchi he got his maiden Test ton against India. When it comes to limited overs format, however, it is in this type of cricket that Maxwell has excelled. On February 28, 2015, during the 2015 Cricket World Cup staged in Australia, he scored a 51-ball hundred against Sri Lanka at Sydney Cricket Ground, which was the quickest one-day international century by an Australian cricketer at that time.
In the most recent one, the 2023 world cup, Maxwell was able to break his own record and reached a hundred in simply 40 balls against Netherlands team which became the fastest century in world cup history.
Glenn Maxwell Dominance in the Shortest Format
Maxwell is one of the most exciting players in T20 cricket and currently holds the Australian record of the most T20 international hundreds, five which puts him on par with India’s Rohit Sharma. His performance in the Big Bash League (BBL) also settles any debate as to why he is a fan favorite. In early 2022, on his 100th BBL match against Hobart Hurricanes at MCG, Maxwell left the world in awe as he scored an unbeaten 154 and made history by being the first player to cross the 150-mark in the competition.
