New Zealand creates history

New Zealand made history by beating India in a Test match on Indian soil for the first time in 36 years. Tom Latham’s team won by eight wickets in Bengaluru. Chasing just 107 runs, Rachin Ravindra and Will Young finished the job in the first session of Day 5, despite a rain delay. Both players remained unbeaten, with Ravindra scoring 45 and Young 39. This win was even more impressive as Kane Williamson missed the match due to injury.

Jasprit Bumrah gave India hope by dismissing Tom Latham and Devon Conway early. But the target was too small for India to defend. Earlier, New Zealand’s bowlers shone, especially Matt Henry, who took five wickets, and William O’Rourke, who claimed four. India were bowled out for just 46 runs, their lowest-ever Test score at home.

New Zealand responded strongly, scoring 402 in their first innings. Rachin Ravindra top-scored with 134, and Tim Southee supported him well, adding 137 runs for the eighth wicket. India fought back in their second innings, with Sarfaraz Khan making 150 and Rishabh Pant scoring 99. However, a late collapse saw India lose their last seven wickets for just 54 runs.

India’s road to the World Test Championship final is now tougher, and the upcoming matches are crucial. The second Test starts on October 24 in Pune.
